The stories behind the lens continue their journey across the Western Balkans, bringing the beauty of our landscapes and the importance of protecting them to Sarajevo.
The travelling exhibition “Landscape Fire Protection through the Camera Lens” has arrived in Sarajevo, bringing together powerful images that tell stories of landscapes, communities and the growing need to protect them from fire.
Following its presentations in Skopje, Prishtina and Banja Luka, the exhibition continues its regional journey, inviting visitors in Sarajevo to see landscape fires through the eyes of photographers from across the Western Balkans and beyond.
The opening was led by Kenan Solaković, Country Project Staff in Sarajevo, who introduced the visitors to the story behind the exhibition and the idea that inspired the regional photography competition. Through the selected photographs, visitors are invited to look beyond the images themselves and explore the stories they tell, about the beauty of the region’s landscapes, the damage caused by fires and the people working to protect these places.
The event also featured an address by Emir Čaušević, representing the Ministry of Agriculture, Water Management and Forestry of the Federation of Bosnia and Herzegovina. He highlighted the efforts undertaken by the Ministry to strengthen landscape fire management and prevention, as well as the importance of cooperation with the LFMWB Programme in developing a more coordinated and preventive approach to landscape fires. Sarajevo exhibition therefore provides more than an opportunity to view compelling photographs. It also creates a space for conversation about how landscapes can be better protected and how prevention, cooperation and shared responsibility can help reduce the risks and impacts of fires.
A special moment of the Sarajevo opening was the presentation of recognition certificates to Samir Shehovic and Bahrudin Bandic, two local photographers whose work was selected among the 20 photographs featured in the travelling exhibition. Their photographs are part of the regional collection that brings together different perspectives on landscapes, fire and the human relationship with nature.
The exhibition will remain open in Sarajevo until 2 October, offering visitors an opportunity to explore the selected photographs and the stories behind them. After Sarajevo, the travelling exhibition will continue its regional journey to Podgorica, as its next stop.
