Banja Luka yesterday hosted the regional photography exhibition “Landscape Fire Protection through the Camera Lens”, bringing together powerful visual stories highlighting the importance of protecting landscapes from fire and strengthening awareness about fire prevention.
Through different perspectives and personal stories, the photographs capture the beauty and vulnerability of the region’s landscapes, the devastating impact of fires, the people working on the ground, as well as examples of resilience and hope.
The opening at Dom Omladine in Banja Luka brought together representatives of institutions, organizations, photographers and citizens, providing an opportunity to discuss the importance of prevention, preparedness and collective action in reducing the risks and consequences of landscape fires.
Speaking at the opening, Slavko Stupar, Country Focal Point of the Programme highlighted the importance of the project and the support provided by the Ministry of Agriculture, Forestry and Water Management. He also praised the organization of the exhibition and congratulated Ana Curic from Banja Luka, who has two photographs that are part of the exhibition, emphasizing the important role of art and photography in raising public awareness about the risks and devastating consequences of landscape fires.
Ana Curic also addressed the audience, sharing the story behind her photographs, which document the devastating fire that affected stands of the endemic Panciceva Omorika. She highlighted that, in just a few days, two of the largest stands of this rare species were destroyed. Through her photographs, Curic has documented this immense loss while drawing attention to the need for greater protection, prevention and care for these valuable natural ecosystems.
The exhibition in Banja Luka will remain open until 13th September and then will continue to Sarajevo.
