The process of developing national policy guidelines for landscape fire management (LFM) in Montenegro was officially launched during a workshop held on 7 May 2026 with members of the National LFM Network. The event brought together around 25 representatives from institutions and organisations actively involved in landscape fire management and policy development processes.

The workshop opened with remarks from Srdjan Pejovic, representative of the Ministry of Forestry, Agriculture and Water Management, and Cvetan Nikolovski, Team Leader of the Landscape Fire Management in the Western Balkans (LFMWB) Programme. They highlighted the increasing risks posed by landscape fires and stressed the importance of stronger institutional coordination. They emphasised the role of the National LFM Network as an important mechanism for fostering dialogue, cooperation, and joint action among relevant stakeholders.
During the event, Marko Sosic presented the proposed structure and methodology for developing the national policy guidelines, outlining the key phases of the process and expected contributions from the network members. Participants actively engaged in discussions, offering feedback and sharing perspectives that will help shape the drafting of the document in the coming period.

The workshop placed particular focus on identifying priority areas and defining strategic directions for improving Montenegro’s approach to landscape fire prevention, preparedness, suppression, and post-fire restoration. Through interactive exchanges and institutional dialogue, participants provided practical recommendations to ensure that the future policy guidelines are adapted to Montenegro’s specific needs and challenges in LFM.
The workshop was organised within the framework of the LFMWB Programme, financed by the Swiss Agency for Development and Cooperation (SDC) and coordinated by Farmahem – Skopje as the Regional Executive Agency, with backstopping support from Helvetas Swiss Intercooperation.
