The Landscape Fire Management in the Western Balkans (LFMWB) Programme is launching a regional photography contest titled “Landscapes Fire Protection through the Camera Lens”, inviting photographers to capture powerful visual stories of landscapes, communities, and fire resilience across the region.
Across the Western Balkans, landscapes play a vital role in supporting biodiversity, sustaining livelihoods, and shaping local identities. However, increasing pressures from climate change, land-use changes, and landscape fires are putting these ecosystems at risk. At the same time, communities, land managers, and local actors are actively working to prevent fires and restore affected areas.
Through this contest, the LFMWB Programme aims to highlight both the beauty of landscapes and the importance of responsible landscape fire management, encouraging participants to share images that raise awareness and inspire action.
Participants are invited to submit photographs under several themes, including:
- Before & After – capturing the impact and recovery of landscapes
- People in Action – showcasing individuals and communities engaged in prevention and restoration
- Fire-Resilient Landscapes – highlighting practices that reduce fire risk
- Hope & Solutions – focusing on positive stories and future-oriented approaches
The contest is open to both amateur and professional photographers. Each participant may submit up to three original photographs that authentically represent the Western Balkans region.
A professional jury will select 30 photographs to be featured in a traveling exhibition across the Western Balkans, aiming to raise awareness and engage wider audiences on landscape fire management.
In addition, three main prizes will be awarded:
- First Prize – 900 CHF equipment voucher
- Second Prize – 500 CHF equipment voucher
- Third Prize – 300 CHF equipment voucher
The deadline for submissions is 10 May 2026, while the results will be announced by 25 May 2026.
