Validating the LFM Strategy in Banja Luka

On 26 November 2025, the Ministry of Agriculture, Forestry and Water Management of Republika Srpska (Bosnia and Herzegovina), as the Country Partner Institution of the Landscape Fire Management in the Western Balkans Programme (LFMWB), organized a meeting of the LFM Network in Banja Luka. Held within the framework of the SDC-funded LFMWB Programme coordinated by Farmahem, the meeting gathered around 20 stakeholders to review and validate the Strategy for Adaptive Landscape Management and Landscape Fire Management (LFM), alongside the Action Plan and the Monitoring Framework.

Mr. Slavko Stupar, LFMWB Country Focal Point from the Ministry, opened the workshop. He emphasized the importance of the Strategy in establishing a clear and coordinated framework for LFM in Republika Srpska, noting that its validation marks a significant step toward stronger national preparedness and joint action across relevant institutions.

Moreover, Ms. Marija Sterjovska, Project Officer of the LFMWB Programme in her opening remarks thanked the Ministry and the Regional Fire Monitoring Center for their organization of the meeting and highlighted the goal of the session: to jointly review the Strategy, Action Plan, and Monitoring Framework, gather final comments, and ensure that the document reflects the needs and expertise of all stakeholders involved.

The working session continued with a presentation by Mr. Miroslav Rakita, who introduced the final draft of the Strategy, developed through the joint efforts of LFM Network members. Participants discussed key objectives, proposed activities, and the monitoring indicators, contributing insights to refine the document further. Following the meeting, stakeholders were given an additional ten days to submit written comments.

The members of the LFM Network of Republika Srpska unanimously supported the validation process, marking an important step toward finalizing the Strategy and strengthening coordinated efforts for more resilient landscapes and communities in Republika Srpska, BiH.
