23.06.2025

On the 18th of June 2025, the meeting of the national Landscape Fire Management (LFM) network took place in Podgorica, gathering around 20 representatives from various institutions in Montenegro.

The event was held within the frame of the Landscape Fire Management in the Western Balkans (LFMWB) Programme, financed by the Swiss Agency for Development and Cooperation (SDC), and it was organised by the Ministry of Agriculture, Forestry and Water Management of Montenegro in close collaboration with the Regional Fire Monitoring Center.

The workshop aimed to support the development of Montenegro’s National Strategy on Adaptive Landscape Management and Landscape Fire Management. Participants reviewed the draft strategy, discussed the proposed action plan, and provided feedback to align the document with the country’s strategic planning methodology.

In the opening session, the Country Project Staff, Mr. Srdjan Sasic, presented the draft National Strategy on Adaptive Landscape Management and Landscape Fire Management. This was followed by a productive discussion where stakeholders shared their views and recommendations on improving the strategic direction and ensuring institutional relevance.

In the second part of the workshop, participants worked in groups to review and refine the draft action plan. The session was moderated by Mr. Aleksandar Karaev, and focused on aligning the plan with Montenegro’s national planning methodology. The working groups presented their findings and proposed concrete steps for improving the action plan.

The workshop concluded with a shared commitment to further develop the national strategy through a participatory and coordinated process. Stakeholders highlighted the importance of cross-sectoral cooperation and agreed on next steps, responsibilities, and timelines for finalising and adopting the strategy with the goal of creating fire-resilient landscapes in Montenegro.
