Second Landscape Fire Management Workshop in Belgrade: Enhancing Cooperation and Building Resilience

Following the first kick-of meeting and establishing the National LFM network, in frame of the SDC’s Landscape Fire Management in the Western Balkans (LFMWB) Programme, the second landscape fire management (LFM) workshop was held in Belgrade on the 5th of June, 2025. This significant workshop of the national LFM network was organized by the LFMWB’s Country Partner Institution (CPI), the Ministry of Agriculture, Forestry and Water Management of the Republic of Serbia, in collaboration with the Regional Fire Monitoring Center (RFMC).

Mr. Vladimir Nikolic, representative of the Ministry of Agriculture, Forestry and Water Management – Directorate of Forests, opened the workshop. He welcomed the participants and emphasized its role in enhancing capacities, cooperation, and policies related to LFM in Serbia, while also fostering collaboration with other Western Balkan countries He also emphasized the role of all stakeholders in the Republic of Serbia and importance of active participation in development of the national programme documents.

Furthermore, Mrs. Jasminka Pashaliska Andonovska, representative of the LFMWB Programme, highlighted that the Landscape Fire Management in the Western Balkans Programme aims to encourage regional cooperation, develop common policies, create regional and national LFM strategies, and provide guidelines for LFM in the Western Balkans countries. With a strategic focus on prevention, preparedness, and reevaluating landscape fire management at local, national, and regional levels, she emphasized the Programme‘s holistic approach, encompassing forests, agricultural lands, pastures, and peri-urban areas. It was pointed out that the prevention stands as the central pillar of the LFMWB Programme.

The workshop further included the presentation of the Country report with LFM guidelines by the Country Project Staff, Mrs. Ana Stefanovic. Stakeholders actively engaged in discussions, sharing their valuable contributions to the report’s development. In group work all participants provided valuable input in developing guidelines for landscape fire management. The workshop witnessed active participation from stakeholders representing over 20 different institutions, spanning the realms of science, practices, associations, and policy sectors in Serbia. The attendees demonstrated a keen interest in landscape fire management, actively participating in fruitful discussions and group work. The LFM stakeholders expressed their unwavering commitment to continued collaboration within the LFM network in Serbia.
