The meeting of the Landscape Fire Management (LFM) Network was held on the 8th of April in Sarajevo, gathering representatives of key institutions from across the Federation of Bosnia and Herzegovina, Bosnia and Herzegovina. The event was organized by the Federal Ministry of Agriculture, Water Management and Forestry in cooperation with the Regional Fire Monitoring Center (RFMC), as part of the Landscape Fire Management in the Western Balkans (LFMWB) Programme—funded by the Swiss Agency for Development and Cooperation (SDC) and coordinated by Farmahem.
The session began with opening remarks by Mr. Nedžmin Begić, Advisor to the Minister, and Mr. Emir Čaušević, LFMWB country focal point at the Ministry, who emphasized the importance of collaborative LFM efforts. This set the stage for one of the key highlights of the meeting – the presentation of the final Country Report on LFM in the Federation of Bosnia and Herzegovina by the LFMWB country project staff, Kenan Solaković, which includes practical LFM guidelines developed jointly with stakeholders.
The meeting also featured the presentation of the draft Gap Analysis Report, outlining the current shortcomings in LFM across the Federation. These findings provided the foundation for identifying institutional, legislative, and technical gaps that needs to be addressed to strengthen LFM.
Building on these insights, participants contributed to the definition of a joint vision and the main objectives for a future Strategy for Adaptive Landscape Management and LFM. These discussions aimed to set a shared course for more sustainable and responsive fire prevention, preparedness, and restoration efforts at the entity level.
With broad participation from forestry services, civil protection institutions, academic representatives, civil society, and other LFM stakeholders, the event fostered dynamic dialogue, practical knowledge exchange, and a renewed sense of cooperation among all stakeholders.
