The Europe and Central Asia Regional Platform for Disaster Risk Reduction event took place in Budva, Montenegro, from November 6-8, 2024, bringing together key stakeholders to assess progress on the regional EFDRR Roadmap for Disaster Risk Reduction 2021-2030 and strengthen capacities for implementing the Sendai Framework for Disaster Risk Reduction 2015-2030.

The Platform event was hosted by the Government of Montenegro and supported by the UN Office for Disaster Risk Reduction, UNDP, the European Commission, and the Council of Europe.

During the event, Cvetan Nikolovski, the Team Leader of the Landscape Fire Management in the Western Balkans (LFMWB) Programme, presented the Programme and its overall goal. He highlighted the significant role of landscape fire management (LFM) with an emphasis to prevention in reducing disaster risk and enhancing fire resilience in the region. Additionally, Nikola Nikolov, the head of the Regional Fire Monitoring Center (RFMC) attended the event as well as Srdjan Sasic, the LFMWB Country Project Staff from Montenegro.

Held every three years, the Regional Platform serves as a unique opportunity to address regional disaster risk challenges, bringing together governments, civil society, and private sector representatives from 55 Member States. The event fosters knowledge-sharing and facilitates tangible commitments towards disaster risk reduction.

The LFMWB Programme’s participation in the Regional Platform event underscored its dedication to advancing LFM as a crucial component of disaster risk reduction. This collaboration strengthens the Programme’s role in promoting prevention, enhancing regional fire-resilience, and supporting the broader goal of reducing disaster risks across the Western Balkans.
