5th LFM Network Meeting: Advancing LFM Strategy in Skopje

On June 5th, 2024, in Skopje, the 5th National LFM Network meeting was organized by the Ministry of Agriculture, Forestry, and Water Economy (MAFWE) in collaboration with the Regional Fire Monitoring Center (RFMC). Over 20 participants from various sectors, including science, practice, and policy attended the meeting to address landscape fire challenges. Funded by the Swiss Agency for Development and Cooperation (SDC) and coordinated by Farmahem from Skopje with backstopping support from Helvetas, this event marked a significant step towards developing the Strategy for Adaptive Landscape Fire Management.

The meeting began with remarks from Mr. Saša Jovanović, State Adviser for Forestry and Hunting, who emphasized the collective effort needed for the strategy. Moreover, the team leader of LFMWB, Mr. Cvetan Nikolovski, stated that the fifth meeting of the National LFM network showcases our shared commitment to crafting a guiding strategy for future LFM. He highlighted the vital role of the strategic document and stakeholder contributions in shaping the strategy that addresses the landscape fire challenges.

Mr. Bojan Mihajlovski, Country Project Staff, presented the latest progress in developing the LFM Strategy, setting the stage for group activities. Participants were divided into two groups focusing on regional cooperation and strategic planning on improving national LFM capacities.

The collaborative spirit underscored the importance of transforming the strategy into tangible actions. The insights and plans from this meeting will guide future actions, moving us closer to a resilient and well-protected landscape.
