On June 3, 2024, the 5th National Landscape Fire Management (LFM) Network meeting took place in Prishtina. The meeting was organized by the Ministry of Agriculture, Forestry, and Rural Development (MAFRD) in collaboration with the Regional Fire Monitoring Center (RFMC). This event is part of the SDC’s Landscape Fire Management in the Western Balkans Programme coordinated by Farmahem with backstopping support from Helvetas. The meeting marked a significant step forward in advancing the Strategy for Adaptive Landscape Fire Management.
The main goals of the meeting were to assess the National LFM Strategy and to discuss the LFM Gap Analysis Report, offering a platform for participants to exchange insights and suggest improvements to the LFM documents. The meeting moderated by Mr. Tahir Ahmeti, Director of the Forestry Department at MAFRD, brought together over 15 representatives from the science, practice, and policy sectors. Ms. Arlinda Gashi presented the progress of the National Strategy for Adaptive LFM.
Group work sessions facilitated in-depth discussions, allowing participants to share their expertise on regional cooperation and action planning. Each group presented their findings, contributing to transforming the strategy into tangible actions.
The meeting concluded with a summary of the workshop’s outcomes and outlined the next steps in developing the LFM National Strategy. The insights from the LFM stakeholders will be transformed into future actions as part of the LFM National Strategy contributing to a fire-resilient and well-protected landscape.
