20.08.2023

On August 17, 2023, the Landscape Fire Management Programme in the Western Balkans, coordinated by the Regional Executive Agency (REA-Farmahem), organized an educational visit to the Pelister National Park. This visit presented a pivotal opportunity for the Country Project Staff (CPS), the members of the Regional Fire Monitoring Center and the REA team to immerse themselves in the practical complexities of landscape fire management (LFM).

Amidst the stunning scenery of the National Park Pelister, the various examples of LFM allowed the participants to tangibly witness the dynamic interaction among nature, LFM, and the importance of actively engaging the local communities in the process.

Throughout the trip, the participants actively exchanged knowledge and experience with the dedicated staff of the National Park. While sharing their profound knowledge, the park rangers explained about the importance of fire prevention measures for the well-being of ecosystems. These discussions highlighted the significance of proactive approaches to foster resilient landscapes.

The participants had an opportunity to explore LFM practices, understand the role of stakeholder involvement, and witness various techniques used by the park rangers. This exposure not only expanded their understanding of LFM but also fostered a deeper appreciation for the complex synergy between nature and effective LFM strategies.

As advocates for sustainable practices, the participants returned from the LFM exposure visit inspired and armed with valuable insights. They have gained significant knowledge to actively contribute to the collective effort of creating resilient landscapes and safeguarding them against fire threats.
